A librarian, facilities manager, and social studies teacher each received recognition from the Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education during last week’s meeting at Smith-Cotton High School.

Superintendent Todd Fraley commended media specialist Dr Lorin Thierfelder for earning librarian of the year honors in the region. Fraley notes that Thierfelder has engaged students at Smith-Cotton with unique activities.

The school board also recognized maintenance director Richie Simons for attaining a statewide certification.

Lastly, school board members recognized freshman social studies teacher Ashley Young for earning the Sons of the American Revolution’s Bronze Good Citizenship Medal. Fraley says the award recognizes Young’s efforts to develop a course for students about the Holocaust.

Also at last week’s meeting, the Sedalia School Board formally approved the transfer of six staff positions to Sedalia Middle School as part of the district’s movement of fourth graders to the building next school year. The board also approved a slate of policy revisions along with the annual secretary of the board report and annual audit. School board members also received proposed changes to the Smith-Cotton High School Course Catalog for next year. They’ll need to vote on the revisions at a future meeting before they take effect.
