Robert Thomas scored just nine seconds into Wednesday night’s game to lift the St Louis Blues past the New Jersey Devils 3-0 at Prudential Center in Newark, providing goalie Jordan Binnington his record-setting 152nd win.
Pavel Buchnevich received the face off, got past two defenders and across the blue line to send the puck across to Thomas, who recorded the game’s first shot and first goal. Dylan Holloway added two goals later in the period, set up by Brandon Saad and Jake Neighbours.
The Devils turned up the offense the rest of the game, outshooting the Blues 24-9 in the remaining two periods, but they were unable to get anything past Binnington. His 31 saves enabled him to claim the all-time record for wins in the net for the Blues, surpassing Mike Liut.
The Blues are now fifth in the Central Division on 23 points, three points behind Colorado. The Notes are back home Saturday to host the Philadelphia Flyers, with puck drop at 6 p.m.
