
Betty Louise Smith, 92, of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery near Elmwood. There is no visitation, but friends may call from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Born September 16, 1932, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Hartley and Lula Lois McFall Hartley. Betty lived in Marshall most of her life, was a 1950 graduate of Marshall High School and a member of Marshall Church of the Nazarene. On November 16, 1951, she married Emmett Lee Smith who preceded her in death on August 14, 2007. First, and foremost, Betty was a homemaker for her family, but did work for many years at Marshall Public Schools as a cook. Being from a family of 10 children, Betty never met a stranger and will always be remembered as someone who had a funny story, a ready smile and a warm hug to those she met along the way.
She is survived by three children: Gary (Susan), Carol (Al), Sharon (Paul); daughter-in-law, Pam; seven grandchildren: Torrie (James), Tyler (Lauren), Chad (Maria), Ashlynn (Drew), Caleb (Laura), Cole and Leah; nine great-grandchildren: Clayton, Sarah, Sophia, Emma, Ella, Jack, Finn, Emmy and Abigail; one sister, June Sargent of Center, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by one son, Randall; and eight siblings: Ruby Lassa, Ruth Jacobs, Rhea Morgan, Tommie Weaver, Georgie Hall, Mary Moore, Billy Hartley and Fred Hartley.
