No injuries were reported after a residence in Marshall caught fire Sunday, Dec. 1.
The Marshall Fire Department responded to the blaze just after 8 a.m. near the corner of West Morgan Street and South Grant Avenue. According to their report, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the house’s eaves and removed the attic vent to discover the fire. Crews put out the fire, then knocked down the ceiling to expose the smoldering structure. The fire was contained within 35 minutes, and debris was cleared out of the house.
The department’s report blames an electrical failure for the blaze, with damage estimated around $30,000. The report says that the house’s occupant noticed the bedroom light stopped working, and after calling the house’s owner, noticed the presence of smoke and called 911. Firefighters say while there were no injuries to residents or personnel, no smoke detectors were present at the time of the fire.
