The Higginsville Board of Aldermen approved a proclamation during its meeting on Monday, December 2.

Paul Curtis, the Branch President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was present at the meeting as aldermen approved the proclamation. The proclamation recognizes January 16, 2025 as Religious Freedom Day in Higginsville.

In other news, the board recognized Steve Smithson for ten years of service with the city as a police officer and school resource officer. He became Higginsville’s first school resource officer in 2019.

Also, City Administrator Jeanette Dobson wanted to remind the board and the public that the first day for a candidate to file for the April 8, 2025 election is December 10. Candidates must file by December 31. The board positions up for election this year are Scott Rhoad in Ward 1, Steve Twiggs in Ward 2, Steven Vetter in Ward 3, and Galen Tuley in Ward 3.
