The Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team is one-and-done in Wichita, as the fourth-seeded Vikings fell 2-1 Monday, Dec. 2 in the Round of 16 to 13th-seeded Midamerica Nazarene.

The Vikings sought to set the pace early with two corner kicks in the first five minutes, but could not convert. The Pioneers would punch through in the 34th minute when Rick Hovinga set Thomas Giraudo up for the opening goal. Midamerica added a second goal by way of a penalty kick in the 74th minute, converted by Antonio Mugica. Missouri Valley recorded 15 shots in the second half as they attempted to mount a comeback. They were aided in the 78th minute when defender Tom Chartier picked up his second yellow card and was tossed from the game, giving the Vikings a one-man advantage. However, they would only secure a goal from Kazuki Hashimoto, with the equalizer never materializing.

Valley’s season comes to a close with a record of 16-3-3, including the regular season Heart of America Athletic Conference title.

Meanwhile, the Missouri Valley women’s soccer team have their Round of 16 contest Tuesday afternoon in Pensacola, Fla., as they face Keiser. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
