The City of Sedalia will need to look for a new city administrator, following Kelvin Shaw’s announcement Tuesday, Dec. 3 that he will retire late next year.
Shaw tells KMMO News that he informed the council of his decision Monday night following the council’s regular session, and laid out a transition plan that will see him leave the city by this time next year.
Shaw says he anticipates the council having current assistant city administrator Matthew Wirt become interim city administrator during the next year.
Shaw first joined the City of Sedalia in 2014 as Finance Director and became City Administrator in 2017.
Sedalia’s city council met Monday night for 90 minutes in regular session to receive the strategic planning presentations from fire chief Matt Irwin and police chief David Woolery. The council approved a budget amendment allocating $50,000 from the opioid settlement fund for the Pettis County Health Department to install three vending machines that distribute Narcan, agreed to the establishment of a trust fund to purchase food for animals at the Sedalia Animal Shelter, and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Missouri Department of Conservation to restock the fishing ponds at Liberty Park and Clover Dell Park.
