Barbara L. Akeman, 92, of Slater, died Saturday, November 30, 2024 at her home.

Private funeral services will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, with Susan Bliss officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Slater United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
Born July 6, 1932 near Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Berniece Fox Wykoff. On February 14, 1954 in Slater, she married James Lienhard, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1966. On January 17, 1981 in Slater, she married J.I. Akeman, and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2015.

She is survived by two daughters, Amy Barber of Kansas City, Missouri, and Kary Anderson of Marshall; a step-daughter, Susan Guarino of Hemet, California; two sisters, Martha Rose Perrin of Slater, and Elizabeth Brown of New Market, Tennessee; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a step-son, David Akeman; four brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Akeman was a longtime member of the Slater United Methodist Church. For several years, she owned and operated Barb’s Bolt Boutique. She worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, later becoming Post Mistress of the Slater Post Office, retiring after twenty-eight years of service. She and her husband were active in the Slater community, being instrumental in the formation of the Akeman-McBurney Medical Clinic, and the Slater Veterans Park.
