The Missouri Valley Viking women’s soccer team forced third-seeded Keiser of Florida to extra time, but it took three minutes for the Seahawks’ Delfina Lombardi to score the game-winner, ending Mo Valley’s season with a 3-2 loss in overtime Tuesday, Dec. 3 in the NAIA National Championship’s Round of 16 in Pensacola, Florida.

Missouri Valley opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Carla Carmona converted a penalty kick. Keiser seized possession not long after, generating five corner kick opportunities, with the fifth from Georgia Little connecting with Lauren Riley for the equalizer in the 25th minute. Maria Vilhena put the Seahawks ahead 2-1 in the 38th minute, but the game was knotted back up 90 seconds later by Marta Carrasco Mesa, who received a cross from Madi Hudson and sent it into goal past the opposite post. Neither team scored in the second half, with the Vikings’ Marina Barbara Bujulance recording four of her seven saves after the half.

The loss ends Missouri Valley’s season at 15-5-1.

Meanwhile, Columbia College will spend more time in the Florida Panhandle, as the Cougars’ Delfina Zolesio notched the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute to defeat Midamerica Nazarene 2-1. Riley Porter also scored for the Cougars, while Thayline Teixeira has the Pioneers’ lone goal. The seventh-seeded Columbia Cougars next play second-seeded William Carey of Mississippi on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
