Bowl season kicked off Saturday, with two Missouri schools earning wins in their postseason bouts.
In Corsicana, Texas, it took two overtimes, but the Central Missouri Mules prevailed 39-37 over the University of Texas at Permian Basin to win the Heritage Bowl. Zach Zebrowski capped his career with a one-yard rushing touchdown, then threw the game-winning two-point conversion to Derrick Rose.
Zebrowski, who is a finalist for the 2024 Harlon Hill Award, engineered a comeback for Central, who trailed 28-14 at the start of the fourth. With 6:46 to go in the game, Zebrowski added his second of three rushing touchdowns to cap a nine-play, 79-yard drive. Zebrowski then connected with Rose for their second touchdown pass play of the game with 35 seconds left in regulation, forcing overtime.
Zebrowski went 20-for-47 for 262 yards, while posting a career-high 138 yards on the ground on 29 carries, to earn most outstanding player honors. Brett Grupe converted four extra points and added a 28-yard field goal in the first overtime frame. Central Missouri conclude the year 9-3.
The Truman Bulldogs picked up a major award in Hobart, Indiana: their fourth bowl victory in five seasons with a 29-10 win over the Tiffin Dragons of Ohio at the America’s Crossroads Bowl.
Truman led from the opening possession, when Vinn Calvaruso connected on a 38-yard field goal. Denim Cook had two rushing touchdowns in the first half to make the halftime score 16-3. Tiffin’s only touchdown came early in the fourth quarter, but their offense was stymied twice by interceptions to Shane Johnson, the second of which was returned 58 yards to put the game away.
Johnson earned defensive player of the game honors, while Cook’s 152 yards earned him the offense player of the game award. The Bulldogs wrap up the season 8-4.
