Sedalia firefighters responded to a blaze Sunday, Dec. 8 on the 400 block of West Main St. that caused significant damage to a pair of buildings but no injuries.
According to the Sedalia Fire Department, crews arrived at the scene around 2:45 a.m. to find smoke emerging from a two-story building as a result of an active fire on the first floor of a neighboring building. The fire spread to the second floor, resulting in crews taking a defensive operation outside the buildings and calling in assistance from the Pettis County Fire Protection District. The fire was contained within three hours, with Sedalia crews remaining on site throughout the morning to extinguish potential hot spots. Portions of Main Street were closed to traffic for several hours.
Three building occupants were taken to a nearby hospital for observation. The Sedalia Fire Department reports two pets were rescued from the building; however, a third is still unaccounted for. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office.
