The St Louis Blues were unable to hold onto a two-goal lead, but secured the overtime winner with a 4-3 victory Tuesday, Dec. 10 over the Vancouver Canucks in British Columbia.
Robert Thomas and Dylan Holloway went coast-to-coast just under two minutes into the overtime frame, with Holloway’s wrist shot getting past Vancouver’s netminder Thatcher Demko. Despite giving up the opening goal to former Blue Dakota Joshua, Saint Louis scored the next three goals. Zack Bolduc evened the score halfway through the first period, and Thomas gave the Blues the lead with a short-handed goal with 2:30 left in the frame. Thomas also assisted on Jordan Kyrou’s power play goal early late in the second period. However, the Canucks started climbing back into the game, with a power-play goal by Elias Pettersson, and Jake DeBrusk tying it up with just under two minutes remaining in regulation with a snap shot past Joel Hofer.
Both teams had 25 shots on goal. All of Hofer’s 22 saves were in regulation, as the Blues recorded the only two goal attempts in overtime.
St Louis remain fifth in the Central Division with 30 points, but are still three points behind the Canucks for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Canucks also have a game in hand. It’s a brief return home for the Blues, as they host San Jose on Thursday night at Enterprise Center, with puck drop at 7 p.m.
