The Missouri Valley Viking Women’s Basketball team hit pause on their three-game losing skid on Saturday, Dec. 14 with a 66-56 exhibition victory at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.

The Vikings scored the last seven points of the first quarter to stake a 20-9 lead over the Hawks of NCAA Division II. MoValley remained in front for the rest of the game, leading by as much as 15 points late in the third when they shot 75 percent from the floor. Despite turning the ball over 31 times, the Vikings brought down 46 rebounds as Rockhurst only made 22 percent of their shot attempts.

Ten of those rebounds were claimed by Ylenia Exposito, who also led the Vikings with 23 points, including a four-for-five mark behind the arc. Ricarda Schott added 13 points. A pair of Hawks were also in double figures, with Keegan Sullivan scoring 11 points and Akili Felici adding ten.

The Vikings claimed their first win over an NCAA Division II team in seven years. However, the game will not count in either team’s official standings.  Missouri Valley remain 8-3 and will return to Heart of America action Tuesday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa against Clarke. The women tip off the doubleheader at 1:30 p.m, with the men’s game to follow around 3:30 p.m.
