Recent discussions on social media concerning a proposed subdivision made their way to the Marshall City Council meeting Tuesday, Dec. 17.
While consideration of the proposed 100-lot Meadows at Harvest Creek west of U.S. Route 65 was not on the agenda, residents expressed their concerns for 20 minutes, receiving answers to their questions from Mayor Vince Lutterbie, City Administrator JD Kehrman, and council members. Lutterbie says the discourse was positive, with several good points raised.
Before opening the floor for public comment, Lutterbie read a statement addressing criticisms raised by a council member on social media. Lutterbie did not name the council member during his remarks, but stated that he had addressed him ahead of the meeting. A zoning issue did come before the council Tuesday night, who agreed to set a public hearing Jan. 21 for the proposed rezoning of a different property, that of the future gas turbine plant at Grant and Eastwood.
Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the council agreed to appoint Wick Jacobi to a four-year term on the Board of Public Works, and ratified a pair of adjusted rates approved last week by that board. The council also approved updated rates for commercial solid waste collection that were presented by RTS Waste Services. Council members also gave first reading to an ordinance allowing the same person to serve as city counselor and city attorney, but postponed consideration of the annual renewal of a contract between the city and the Marshall Saline Development Corporation.
