The site of the Marshall Municipal Court building will not become a grocery store in the foreseeable future.
City administrator JD Kehrman informed Marshall’s city council Tuesday that the Overland Group, representing Dollar General, has declined to exercise an option to purchase the site of the court building for $150,000. Kehrman says while it’s disappointing that a new grocery store won’t come to the north part of town, it does give the city more time to relocate the court and Marshall Municipal Band.
Kehrman adds that the municipal court is likely to relocate across the street to City Hall, with the bottom floor becoming available once the Marshall Public Library relocates to their new space in the summer of 2026.
However, Dollar General’s decision means that the northern half of Marshall is still without a fresh grocery store. Kehrman says he and the council continue to seek a business willing to expand to the area.
The Marshall city council voted in September to sell the land to Dollar General, provided they agreed to build a DG Market store, as opposed to their standard discount store.
