The Tampa Bay Lightning needed just 11 shots to chase Jordan Binnington out of the game, getting their three goals past him in the St Louis Blues’ 3-1 loss Thursday, Dec. 19 at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

Despite outshooting the Blues 32-18 in the game, the Lightning were more effective with their attempts, getting on the board just five minutes into the contest with Anthony Cirelli’s backhand shot. Nikita Kucherov recorded two assists in the second period, setting up goals for Nick Perbix and Gage Goncalves, to bring his season total to 35, currently second in the league. Pavel Buchnevich secured the Blues’ only goal with under eight minutes to go in the second, as Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 31 shots.

The Blues’ goalkeeping struggled with the few shots they experienced, as Binnington only recorded eight saves before he was pulled. Joel Hofer stopped all seven shots, but was assessed a tripping penalty late in the third period.

St Louis remain sixth in the Central Division on 33 points, five behind Dallas for third in the division and five behind Colorado for the Western Conference’s second wildcard spot. The Blues remain in the Sunshine State, as they visit the Florida Panthers on Friday at 6 p.m.
