The region’s two Major League Soccer teams will settle their I-70 derby early in the upcoming season, as both teams look to rebound from disappointing campaigns.
Sporting Kansas City will host the first of two contests against St Louis City SC on Saturday, April 5 at Children’s Mercy Park. The two rivals will meet at Energizer Park in St Louis on Wednesday, May 14. Last season the two played to a pair of draws before St Louis City won the third contest 3-1 at home. That allowed City to finish 12th in the Western Conference ahead of Sporting, as both teams missed the playoffs.
St Louis City will begin the season at home February 22nd against the Colorado Rapids, followed by a trip to San Diego for the expansion side’s first-ever MLS home match at Snapdragon Stadium. Home matches at the recently rebranded Energizer Park this season include defending MLS Cup Champions LA Galaxy on June 14, Nashville SC on Aug. 9, and US Open Cup champions Los Angeles FC on Sept. 27. City will also host their Decision Day contest to conclude the regular season Oct. 18 against Real Salt Lake.
Meanwhile, Sporting Kansas City will start the season with their CONCACAF Champions Cup contests against Inter Miami. The first leg is Feb. 18 at Children’s Mercy Park, followed by the second leg Feb. 25 in Miami. Inbetween those contests is the MLS season opener Feb. 22 at Austin. The home opener is March 1 against San Jose. Sporting’s home matches this season include the first-ever contest against Charlotte on June 25 and San Diego on Aug. 9. The regular season will conclude with Decision Day on Oct. 18 at home against Houston.
