The City of Sedalia adopted an action plan last week aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities in the city by 2032.
The Safe Streets for Sedalia Action Plan will commit Sedalia to collaborating with other government agencies to design safer roadways, as well as focus on education and enforcement of traffic laws. Mayor Andrew Dawson says the program also opens the door for grant opportunities.
Most action taken by the council last week dealt with public works projects, including a $1,484,918 water and sewer main extension to a new neighborhood planned for near Clover Dell Park in the southwestern part of Sedalia.
Do-Rite Construction of Lincoln was awarded the bid, after Sedalia officials found that the lowest bid came from a contractor who had past performance issues on city projects, which ultimately led to liquidated damages and untimely warranty repairs. Do-Rite also won the bid to install a main to WireCo from the Central Regional Lift Station, totaling $411,664. The council also accepted a bid of nearly $30,990.25 from Flynn Well Drilling of Troy to plug and seal a water well that hadn’t been in operation for over 30 years, and agreed to the purchase of ultraviolent disinfection systems worth $100,293.16 from Trojan Technologies.
