With the New Year right around the corner, Lexington City Administrator Shawnna Funderburk has already outlined a goal she has for the city in 2025.

Funderburk says she and the city council want to review the city’s laws regarding roaming dogs and other animals, and will consider an ordinance to increase fines for residents who don’t properly restrain their animals.

The interest in this ordinance was sparked after a resident brought up concerns with loose and uncontrolled dogs to the council during its meeting December 10. There were reports of dogs wandering Lexington’s neighborhoods and attacking other pets. Funderburk stated she does have experience drafting ordinances to treat this problem.

In other news, the board approved a bid from Quality Overhead to replace garage doors at the Fire Department. The bid was approved at $7,350.
