The city of Marshall has dedicated the green space on the grounds of the old Fitzgibbon Memorial Hospital as a park for residents and members to remember the impact the facility had for almost 70 years.
A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Fitzgibbon Memorial Park on Friday, December 27. The park currently includes a plaque, several benches, and a cornerstone from the original hospital building. The old hospital was opened in 1923
Fitzgibbon President and CEO Angy Littrell says the new park is a great way to remember the legacy of John Fitzgibbon and the old hospital.
Marshall Mayor Vince Lutterbie spoke about the city’s plans for future parks and beautification projects.
The remainder of the block will become the site of a dozen homes. The new Fitzgibbon Hospital was opened in 1991, 68 years after the old hospital admitted its first patient.
