The Missouri Tigers only led once in Saturday’s SEC opener, as the second-ranked Auburn Tigers cruised to an 84-68 final in Auburn.
Mark Mitchell provided the lone lead for Mizzou early in the first half with a three-point jumper. The lead lasted just 19 seconds, when Auburn’s Johni Broome responded with a three of his own. Broome led the hosts with 24 points, as Auburn went 48 percent from behind the arc, including four straight three-point baskets in the opening frame to put Mizzou away. Mizzou created 16 turnovers but scored just 15 points off them, as Auburn’s ball discipline eventually wore Mizzou down.
Marques Warrick came off the bench to lead Mizzou with 19 points, the only Mizzou player in double figures. The starting five combined for 21 points as Mizzou fell to 11-3 overall and 0-1 in SEC play. It’s another clash of Tigers for Mizzou as they will host LSU on Tuesday; tipoff is at 8 p.m., with pregame from 7:30 p.m. on KMMO.
