Several area tournaments scheduled for this week have been rescheduled because of the recent winter weather and frigid temperatures.
The 96th New Franklin Invitational will compress their bracket onto three days, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 8. All first-round games will take place then, with games still split between the old and new gyms. The first two games in the old gym feature Westran’s top-seeded teams, with the Hornet boys tipping things off at 4 p.m. against eighth-seeded Community, followed by the girls around 5:30 p.m. against eighth-seeded Wellsville-Middletown. Fourth-seeded Sturgeon boys and fifth-seeded Pilot Grove will tussle at 7 p.m., fol lowed by the girls 4/5 contest between Fayette and Prairie Home; Fayette are the fourth seed.
KMMO’s microphones will be in the New Gym, where the host New Franklin boys take on Wellsville-Middletown in the 3/6 matchup. This game will top off around 4:30 p.m., with pregame on KMMO AM 1300 around 4:20 p.m.. We’ll move things to FM 102.9 around 6 p.m. when the third-seeded Community girls battle Sturgeon. That’s followed by the host New Franklin girls with the two seed facing off against conference foes Pilot Grove. The night cap around 9 p.m. will feature second-seeded Prairie Home boys against Fayette. Again, all these games are Wednesday, and all will stream on our website, KMMO.com.
All second-round games are scheduled for Thursday, with the first of four consolation games in the old gym around 4 p.m. and semifinals in the new gym around 4:30 p.m. All placement games are set for Saturday.
The Cole Camp Bluebirds are in the Stover Tournament, whose action is scheduled to begin Tuesday. Both teams are battling Knob Noster in the Stover High School gym, with the girls game at 7:30 p.m. as the 3/6 contest, and the boys game following as the 2/7 contest on that bracket. We’ll stream both games on KMMO.com.
Other girls games scheduled for tonight include Russellville vs Warsaw JV in the 2/7 contest at 4:30 p.m. in the gym, followed by fourth-seeded Versailles and fifth-seeded Holden at 6 p.m. in the Dome. The hosts are the top seed and will take on Green Ridge at 9 p.m., also in the Dome. The other boys games begin in the Dome at 4:30 p.m. when the hosts with the five seed face Holden. Top-seeded Russellville take on the Northwest JV team at 6 p.m. in the High School Gym. At 7:30 p.m. in the Dome, third-seeded Versailles faces Green Ridge.
Other tournaments rescheduled this week include the 7th Salisbury Invitational. All first-round games are Wednesday, with second-round contests Thursday and placement games Saturday.
Because of the schedule change, Tuesday’s Mizzou Tigers’ men’s basketball game against LSU will now air on both AM 1300 and FM 102.9. Pregame coverage from the Tiger Radio Network begins at 7:30 p.m.
