The Minnesota Wild scored four unanswered goals to achieve a 6-4 comeback over the St Louis Blues on Tuesday, Jan. 7 in the Twin Cities, including three goals in the third period.

Those three goals were among just six shots registered by the hosts in the frame, as Mats Zuccarello recorded the assists on Jake Middleton’s tying goal and Matt Boldy’s go-ahead snap shot over a four-minute time period. Marcus Johansson had the empty-netter to seal the win for Minnesota. The Blues had allowed Minnesota to take a 2-0 lead early in the game, but Pavel Buchnevich got the Blues on the board halfway through the first period. Saint Louis recorded goals in a three-minute span from Jordan Kyrou, Jake Neighbours, and Robert Thomas early in the second to take a 4-2 lead, but Joel Eriksson Ek ended the spree with his goal halfway through the period.

Jordan Binnington recorded 20 saves out of the 25 shots he faced, as the Blues chased Filip Gustavsson out of the game after he allowed all four goals out of 18 shots faced. Veteran netminder Marc-Andre Fleury stopped the Blues’ remaining 15 shots to put Minnesota back in the contest.

The loss keeps the Blues fifth in the Central Division with 42 points, nine behind Dallas for third. They’re three points behind Colorado for second in the wild card standings. The Blues return home Thursday for the first of four games at Enterprise Center, starting with the Anaheim Ducks; puck drop is at 7 p.m.
