The Kansas City Royals continue to stay aggressive this offseason, signing Michael Lorenzen to a one-year contract.

The deal is worth $7 million guaranteed, with a mutual contract option for 2026. Lorenzen was acquired by the Royals at last season’s trade deadline, where he then went on to post a 1.57 ERA over seven appearances (six starts). Lorenzen finished the 2024 season with a 3.31 ERA in 130 1/3 innings while pitching for both the Rangers and the Royals.

Lorenzen joins a rotation that already includes Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans, and Michael Wacha, who re-signed earlier this offseason. Lorenzen also has the flexibility to come out of the bullpen if needed. He has 275 appearances as a reliever and 15 career saves.

Lorenzen will now have a full spring to work with catchers Salvador Perez and Freddy Fermin after joining the organization late into the 2024 season. Pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training on February 12.
