A purchase approved by the Carrollton Town Council on Wednesday, Jan. 8 could see some use Thursday evening with the additional snow in the forecast.

The town council voted to accept the bid from AgPower to purchase a new side-by-side for the parks department, totaling $33,800. Mayor Susie Bliss says the equipment is in stock, so the city could put it to use Thursday night.

Bliss commended the city’s streets department for their efforts to clear Carrollton’s roadways after last week’s blizzard, as well as city and county employees who assisted.

Bliss notes that street supervisor Bryan Mathis reported to the council that the past week’s storm response resulted in an additional $17,000 cost to Carrollton, spread among fuel, road salt, and overtime pay.

Also at Wednesday night’s meeting, the town council approved paying the city clerk an additional $25 per Sunshine Law request received when more than two are received in a month. The increase would take effect after April’s municipal election. The council also approved an agreement with a landowner to allow the city to remove a mobile home that has fallen into disrepair, and postponed discussion on the budget for Carrollton Municipal Utilities to the next town council meeting, scheduled for Jan. 22.
