The Missouri Tigers spotted the Arkansas Razorbacks the game’s first basket, then proceeded to score 18 straight points, en route to an 83-65 pummeling of their porcine rivals Saturday, Jan. 18 at Mizzou Arena.
Jonas Aidoo gave Arkansas its only lead of the night with a slam dunk 21 seconds into the game, before Tamar Bates sunk the first of his three-pointers on the night, sparking the game’s longest run. The Razorbacks struggled to connect from three, shooting just 22 percent from distance while making 44 percent of their shots. Mizzou pulled off 10 steals and capitalized on 13 Razorback turnovers to maintain their sizable lead throughout the second half.
Four Tigers were in double-figures, with Caleb Grill and Mark Mitchell both claiming 17 points. Bates added 15 while Trent Pierce added 10. The Tigers are now 15-3 overall, 4-1 in SEC play, while Arkansas are still looking for their first conference win under head coach John Calipari, with an overall record of 11-7. Mizzou next play Tuesday night when they make their first trip to Texas since 2012, when Mizzou pulled off a 67-66 win over the Longhorns.
