
Harvey Gene Sassmann, 89, of rural Alma, MO, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, surrounded by his family at home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia with Rev. Don Scurlock officiating. Burial will follow in Three Groves Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Three Groves Cemetery and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born May 3, 1935, in rural Alma, he was the son of the late Benjamin Jacob Sassmann and Lydia Krause Sassmann. Harvey lived in the rural Alma area his entire life and was a 1953 graduate of Blackburn High School. On May 19, 1955, he married Ruth Ann Samson who survives of the home. Harvey was a dairyman until 1975 and continued to do general farming for many years. He worked for Wilson Foods from 1977 until it closed in 1999, and then worked with his son, Jim, doing construction work for 13 years locally, as well as in south Texas where they vacationed. Harvey was a faithful Christian and did his best to make sure that everyone knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. He was a member of Three Groves Baptist Church north of Alma.
Harvey is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Ruth Ann Sassmann; three children: Patty Dankenbring of Waverly, Dale Sassmann (Loretta) of Marshall and Jim Sassmann (Tammy) of Cole Camp; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Randy Sassmann; a son-in-law, Dale Dankenbring; a great-grandson, Sayler Dierker; and five siblings: Wesley Sassmann (in infancy), Gilbert Sassmann, Arthur Sassmann, Ruby Foose and Ruth Hammack.
