The Marshall City Council gave first reading to an ordinance Tuesday, Jan. 21 that would change how frequently the city’s five percent lodging tax is collected.

Mayor Vince Lutterbie says the ordinance as currently written doesn’t provide much in the way of enforcement or determining how much the city’s actually collecting from hotels and similar businesses.

The council’s discussion included comments from Rebecca Adams, who serves on the Marshall Tourism Commission. The council also approved three appointments to the board.

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the Marshall City Council gave final approval to the ordinance renewing the city’s contract with the Marshall-Saline Development Corporation, and approved vacating tracts of land and part of an alleyway near the site of the future gas power plant. The council also signed off on a contract deeding the land for construction of the Saline County Habitat for Humanity’s next home.
