The unusually chilly weather in Texas only served to freeze Mizzou’s momentum, as the recently ranked Tigers went cold from behind the arc and fell to the Longhorns 61-53 on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in Austin, snapping a four-game win streak.

Both squads were unusually lackluster, as it took four minutes for either team to score from the field. It took longer for Mizzou to wake up, falling behind by as much as ten points in the first half as they were just one-for-ten from three-point-range. The Tigers did retake the lead in the second half, but turned to ice in the final five minutes as they could only score four points, allowing Texas to take momentum and claim their second conference win of the season.

Only Tamar Bates finished in double figures for Mizzou, picking up ten points, while the Longhorns’ Arthur Kaluma led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Tre Johnson added 12. Texas didn’t need any baskets from distance, as they took advantage of Mizzou’s foul trouble to go 13-of-18 from the free-throw line to pad their lead.

Mizzou fall to 15-4 on the season and 4-2 in SEC play. They’ll look to reclaim any rationale for being ranked in the AP Top 25 poll when they host Ole Miss this Saturday evening. Tipoff is at 5 p.m., with pregame at 4:30 on KMMO AM 1300.
