The City of Brunswick will ask voters this April whether they want to forgo uncontested municipal elections.

City clerk Sarah Clubine tells KMMO News that the board of aldermen adopted an ordinance at Tuesday night’s meeting, placing before voters on the April 8th ballot the question of whether they’re willing to forgo municipal elections when the number of candidates equals the number of seats being contested. The ordinance would need a simple majority to become law. Clubine notes that this April’s election is contested, as three candidates have filed for two seats on the board.

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, aldermen received updates on grant projects and potential applications. Clubine says crews recently collected core samples from Adams Street as part of the project to resurface the roadway. She adds that funds for the project were secured with the help of Congressman Sam Graves’ office.

The Brunswick Board of Aldermen next meet Feb. 18.
