The Sweet Springs School District Board of Education approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the city for a school resource officer during a recent meeting.

The agreement would be in effect for one year and can be terminated at any time. Superintendent Lori Price says the district would benefit from having an SRO.

Price notes that the police department must submit an MOU to be approved by the school district and the city. Both parties still need approval from the board of aldermen. This agreement is also contingent on whether a suitable applicant can be found.

In other news, the board reviewed the three candidates that filed for the available board seats on the April election ballot. There are two available positions with three-year terms on the ballot. The candidates for this year’s election include incumbent Crystal Hoyes, Jacob Barbee, and Guy Trease.

The board’s next meeting is scheduled for February 12.
