flag-at-half-staff-11-27-20

Flags across Missouri remain at half-staff Sunday, Jan. 26 in remembrance of a Howard County firefighter.

Governor Mike Kehoe ordered flags at all buildings in Howard County, as well as all fire stations in Missouri and the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri, to stay at half-mast in memory of 64-year-old Larry Roland Duncan of Franklin, who died Jan. 15, 2025. Duncan’s death has been attributed to an illness he developed after he was deployed as part of Missouri Task Force One to Ground Zero in New York following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Duncan’s career as a firefighter spanned several decades, first with the Cooper County Fire Protection District in 1984 and then Boone County in 1990. He served with the Columbia-based Missouri Task Force One from 1998 to 2003 as a Heavy Equipment Rigging Specialist. He most recently joined the Howard County Fire Protection District Number Four in 2021, where he remained active until his death.

The funeral for 64-year-old Larry Roland Duncan of Franklin, who died Jan. 15, will be Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. at the New Franklin High School Gymnasium. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at the Old Lamine Cemetery.
