The Kansas City Current’s breakout star from the past season has agreed to stay along the river side for the next three years.

The NWSL franchise announced Wednesday, Jan. 29 that Temwa Chawinga has signed a contract extension that will see the Malawian striker stay in teal until 2028. Chawinga won the NWSL’s Golden Boot in her first season in Kansas City, netting 20 goals and six assists as she led the Current to the semifinals. She also secured a brace in the Current’s victory over Gotham FC in the Summer Cup final.

The Current’s 2025 regular season kicks off March 15 at CPKC Stadium against the Portland Thorns.
