Patrons of the Brookfield R-III School District will have a $3.9 million bond measure to consider on the ballot this April.
According to preliminary minutes from their Jan. 21 meeting, the board of education unanimously approved the text of their new bond measure, known as Proposition Two. Ballot language adopted by the board says that if voters approve the bond, the district will use the funds to replace and update the district’s track and field facility; upgrade heating, ventilation, and air condition systems and student lockers across the district. A new elementary school playground is also planned, with remaining funds used to complete additional repairs and improvements. The debt service levy will remain at $0.66 per $100 of assessed valuation.
Brookfield’s school board also accepted the bid from Archimages to manage the projects. Supt. Dr Eric Hoyt made the recommendation to the board after interviewing the two firms who submitted bids.
Also at last week’s meeting, Dr Hoyt confirmed that no board election would be required in April, as two candidates filed for the two seats available. Ryan Burns will return to the board, while Brenda Hueffmeier will succeed Jim McIntyre.
