The St Louis Blues scored both their goals in the third period, but were unable to keep the lead as the Pacific Division-leading Edmonton Oilers pulled off a comeback of their own, defeating the Blues in overtime Tuesday, Feb. 4 by a 3-2 score.

Connor McDavid played a role in all three Oiler goals, scoring on a power play nearly six minutes into the contest and providing an assist on the other two. Jordan Kyrou tied the game for the Blues with a backhand shot during another power play, followed by Colton Parayko’s go-ahead goal nearly four minutes later. The Oilers put their extra attacker to use with just over two minutes remaining, when McDavid crossed the puck to Leon Draisaitl for a one-timer snap shot that got past Jordan Binnington. McDavid made a drive toward goal in overtime before feeding the puck to Connor Brown, who quickly took his shot and delivered the game-winner.

Binnington was able to stop 35 of Edmonton’s shots on goal, while the Blues were limited to 22 shot attempts, 20 of them saved by Stuart Skinner.

The Blues did pick up a point for going to overtime, but with only five points earned in their past eight games, they’re now six points behind Calgary for the second wild card spot. Their six-game home stand continues Thursday night when the Florida Panthers arrive at Enterprise Center. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
