The Sedalia City Council continues to review department head priorities and wish lists in the city’s budget for fiscal year 2026 that begins April 1.

Interim city administrator Matthew Wirt says after an initial work session last month, the council will deliberate about each department’s requests during a second session later this month.

Each department, as well as foundations who receive support from the city, have provided annual presentations to the council detailing their work over the past year as well as priorities for the next. Monday’s meeting saw John Simmons with the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation deliver his group’s update, along with a request for additional funds to bring more entertainers to the annual event in early June. Wirt says it’s similar to requests the group had made in previous years.

Sedalia City Council provided the foundation $10,000 each of the past two years. Their next city council meeting is set for Tuesday, Feb. 18.
