Matthew Tkachuk tipped in the game-winning goal with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Florida Panthers over the St Louis Blues 3-2 on Thursday, Feb. 6 at Enterprise Center, keeping the Blues in the midst of their mid-season slump.

Sam Rinehart attempted a pair of shots in front of Joel Hofer after teammate Aleksander Barkov came up with the puck. The shot bounced off Hofer’s pad, where Tkachuk was waiting to give the defending Stanley Cup champions the win. It was his second goal of the night, as he had given Florida the lead late in the first during a power play with another tip-in goal. Zack Bolduc opened the scoring for the Blues with a back-hand shot three-and-a-half minutes into the game. Mackie Samoskevich tied the game up four minutes later. The Panthers led for much of the second period, before Oskar Sundqvist netted a tying goal on a power play.

The Blues only tallied 22 shots on goal, with Panthers goalie Spencer Knight saving 20. Hofer was tested throughout the evening, having to save 31 of the Panthers’ shots.

The loss now has the Blues eight points behind Vancouver for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, and 15 points behind Minnesota for third in the Central Division. The Blues’ lenghty home stand continues when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night, with puck drop at 6 p.m.
