A family tradition is continuing at the Moberly Fire Department with the hiring of their new deputy fire chief.

Chief Don Ryan announced Tuesday the promotion of Ross Dutton as deputy fire chief. Dutton has served the Moberly community for 14 years, and has a total of 22 years of experience as a firefighter. He tells KMMO News he’s assuming a position that the department recently re-created, and has a goal of developing a strong culture

Dutton is following in the footsteps of his grandfather Robert, who spent 30 years with the Moberly Fire Department, retiring as chief, and his father Ross, who spent 30 years with the Macon Fire Department, also retiring as chief. He says that strong family history helped to prepare him for his career.

As deputy fire chief, Dutton will also become familiar with Chief Ryan’s duties and step in for him as needed.
