The 15th rank Missouri Tigers overcame two double-digit deficits in the first-half, but ran out of steam after Wade Taylor’s three-point jumper with two seconds remaining as the Tigers fell to 10th-ranked Texas A&M 67-64 on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Mizzou Arena. The loss was their first at home this season.
The Tigers allowed the Aggies to score the game’s first 12 points, going into the first media time out having missed their first five shots. Tamar Bates’ three-point basket put Mizzou on the board, and a Mark Mitchell layup six minutes later closed out a 13-2 run to tie the game. However, that led to another strong showing by the visitors, who took a 38-29 lead into the locker room. Mizzou took advantage of a second-half scoring drought by the Aggies to take the lead halfway through the frame, and another Bates three gave Mizzou a five-point lead with seven minutes remaining. The remainder of the contest was back-and-forth, producing three lead changes and three ties.
Taylor’s winning three-point basket was his third of the afternoon, as he scored 15 points for the Aggies. Pharrel Payne led A&M with 20 points, while Henry Coleman claimed 16 rebounds. Bates finished the game with 16 points to lead the Tigers, while Jacob Crews added 14 from the bench and Mark Mitchell added 12.
Mizzou now sit 17-6 on the season, with a 6-4 record in the SEC. The Tigers will look to rebound at home Wednesday night when Oklahoma make their first trip to Mizzou Arena in 13 years. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
