The St Louis Blues needed a ten-round shootout to dispatch their archrivals Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Enterprise Center, defeating the Blackhawks 6-5 to maintain their meager playoff chances heading into the Four Nations Face-Off break.

Radek Faksa netted the ultimate game winner, when he drew goalie Arvik Soderblom off his line and skated his shot past him, while Jordan Binnington secured the win by causing Tyler Bertuzzi to whiff on his attempt. Brayden Schenn and Teubo Teravainen also recorded shootout goals.

The last-place Blackhawks scored twice in the first, with standout Connor Bedard and former Blue Pat Maroon each claiming an assist. The Blues flipped the script in the second with goals from Philip Broberg, Nathan Walker, and Mathieu Joseph; Brayden Schenn recorded assists on two of the goals while Walker’s goal was unassisted. The final period saw the Blackhawks’ Ilya Mikheyev notched two assists, then put the Blackhawks ahead with his backhand shot, after Cam Fowler netted a wrist shot earlier in the period for the Blues. Robert Thomas brought the game back level when he poked a loose puck to Soderblom’s left with four-and-a-half minutes remaining.

Soderblom recorded 35 saves for the Blackhawks, as the Blues outshot Chicago 40-20. The Blues enter the midseason break with 55 points, eight behind Vancouver for second in the Western Conference wildcard standings and 15 behind Minnesota for third in the Central Division. After the two-week pause for the Four Nations Face-Off, the Blues will have three home games, starting Feb. 22 with the league-leading Winnipeg Jets.
