The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education are expected to review survey results and set direction for the future of two elementary school buildings when they meet Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Discussion continues on the future of Benton and Northwest schools, which will go offline after this school year when the new intermediate school on the Northeast Campus opens. Supt. Caleb Petet says survey responses following an open house were limited, but are conveying a general sentiment among district patrons.

Also going offline at the end of the year is Eastwood Elementary, which will eventually be transferred to the City of Marshall. City council members recently toured the building to consider alternatives to the current plan of the district tearing the building down before the city takes ownership of the site.

Petet says if the current plan holds, the school district would incur the cost of tearing down and regrading the Eastwood side. He adds that exploratory bids last year for the work came out to around $300,000.

Tuesday’s Marshall School Board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Tom Butterfield Early Childhood Center.
