Born on Christmas Day in 1937 in Marshall, MO, Mary Ann’s life was a testament to kindness, loyalty, and an unwavering dedication to family, faith, and education. She was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Shrader of Herndon, MO, and the cherished niece of Mary Jane Frain of Marshall, MO. She is survived by her loving brother, Vincent Shrader, and sister-in-law, Lynda Shrader of Marshall, MO. She was a devoted aunt and second mother to Kelly Steenhoek (Jim) of Kansas City, MO, Steven Shrader (Kim) of Sweet Springs, MO, and Sarah Shrader of Kansas City, MO. Her love extended to her great-niece and nephews, Ashley (Brad) Mosello of St. Louis, MO, Caleb (Caley) Siebert of St. Louis, MO, and Olivia (Trent) Siebert of Kansas City, MO, her great-great nephews Landen and Brody, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Growing up on the family farm in Herndon, Mary Ann developed a deep appreciation for hard work, community, and the beauty of a simple life. She attended Missouri Valley College and later dedicated over 30 years of her life as a second-grade teacher in the Park Hill School District in Kansas City, MO. After her retirement in 1995, she moved back to the family farm in Marshall and continued as a substitute teacher in the Marshall Public School District.
Mary Ann’s warmth and generosity knew no bounds. She was a pillar of strength, love, and humor to those around her. Affectionately known as “Annie” to her great-nieces and nephews, she delighted in attending their activities and offering encouragement.
A passionate sports fan, Mary Ann was a devoted supporter of the Missouri Valley Vikings, the Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Beyond sports and teaching, Mary Ann had a rich social life filled with laughter, friendship, and adventure. Whether attending Broadway shows, socializing over coffee or happy hour, or spending vacations at the Lake of the Ozarks, or in many cities across the U.S during her summers off from teaching. Her faith was an anchor in her life, and she remained a devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Sweet Springs and Marshall, MO.
Mary Ann lived life fully, laughed often, and loved deeply. While she will be dearly missed, her spirit will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched.
