New Franklin Mayor Daniel Yount had to cast the tiebreaking vote Monday, Feb. 10 on whether the city should continue to maintain a street light at an intersection south of the city.

Yount says at Monday night’s meeting that the city council deadlocked on whether to keep the light at the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and Route 5.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will soon reconfigure the intersection as a T junction rather than its current triangle design. Yount says he’ll reach out to MoDOT to determine where their street light will go.

The City Council also voted Monday to permanently close the city pool after years of non-use. Yount says attempting to bring back the pool proved cost-prohibitive.

Mayor Yount says the city’s park board is in the process of hosting a series of fundraisers, including candle sales and a 5k run next month, to support future improvements at the city park.
