The Concordia Board of Aldermen approved the second reading of an ordinance that will refer to the city’s voters a proposal to establish a use tax on goods purchased from out-of-state vendors.

The vote at their rescheduled board meeting Thursday, Feb. 6 means that the city will have an election Aug. 5 to decide whether to apply the city’s sales tax rate to purchases made online, among other means. City administrator Dale Klussman said aldermen were satisfied with answers to questions they had raised at an earlier meeting.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the board decided against a request from Concordia R-II Schools for a waiver from building permit fees for their planned projects at the high school and elementary school.

A separate request from the school district for additional street lighting near the elementary school was also considered. The board decided to ask J-Squared Engineers to come up with a plan that aldermen can consider at a future meeting.
