Three properties declared surplus by Marshall Public Schools last month are up for sale.

The district’s board of education voted Tuesday night to accept Supt. Caleb Petet’s recommendation that Benton and Northwest schools be listed for sale, each with a suggested price of $65,000. Petet says survey responses after a pair of open houses favored conversion of the buildings.

Petet says the properties could be donated to a civic group if they present a viable plan for their use and cover the cost of legal paperwork to allow for the donation. He notes that the district will place restrictions on the deed that reflect community survey responses as a condition of any sale. The board also approved listing the house next to the Tom Butterfield Early Childhood Center for sale at over $222,000, three months after the district invoked the right-of-first-refusal to purchase the property for $185,000.

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the board approved an agreement with the Mullen Coughlin law firm, who is assisting several school districts impacted by the global PowerSchool data breach.

In additional business, Marshall’s school board approved the transfer of $716,000 into the general fund from the salary fund, and also approved a fourth grade teaching position at the Intermediate School. During executive session the board accepted the resignation of Walter Rodriguez from his position as Marshall High School’s ESports coach at the end of the school year, and named Gage Bunting his replacement.
