The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works motioned to update its internet download and upload speeds for customers during its meeting on Thursday, February 13.
IT and Broadband Director Jim Widel completed a recent bandwidth upgrade and recommended that the board pass along the speed increase to customers. MMU’s internet packages are divided into tiers, and each tier will see a significant increase in both download and upload speed. Widel notes these speeds aren’t guaranteed, just maximums available to customers.
The speeds in tier one increase from 50 megabits per second (Mbps) download/25 Mbps to 100 Mbps download/upload. In tier two, the speeds increase from 150 Mbps download/75 Mbps upload to 250 Mbps download/upload. The final tier increases from 450 Mbps download/225 Mbps upload to one gigabit per second (Gbps) of download and upload speed. Widel says the prices for each of the tiers remains unchanged.
The board approved the motion to update the new internet rate schedule.
