Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe is directing government buildings in Macon County to fly their flags at half-staff Sunday in memory of a Macon native who was killed in the line of duty last month.

Flags will fly at half-staff Sunday in memory of 28-year-old Shelbe Faye Butner, who lost her life while conducting a training exercise Jan. 30, 2025 at Ft Stewart in Georgia. Staff Sergeant Butner enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after her graduation from Macon High School in 2015. She had been assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, and during her nine-year military career completed a tour of service in Kuwait.

Butner’s funeral is Friday, Feb. 14, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church in Macon. Her inurnment with full military honors will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
