A couple of Prairie Home basketball teams that started the year strong but have stumbled as of late saw no reversal of that trend Saturday, Feb. 15 in Glasgow, as their boys lost to the Yellowjackets, 67-51, and the girls soundly beaten 64-32.
Pulling Away Throughout
in the boys’ matchup, Glasgow led early, 8-1, then watched the Panthers enjoy an 8-0 run to go on top 9-8 which was the only time Prairie Home was ahead all afternoon. The Yellowjackets went back in front 14-11 after one period and then took advantage of numerous Panther turnovers and some solid outside shooting to steadily extend their lead over the next two quarters. Glasgow was ahead, 35-25 at the half and later, 54-31 going into the final eight minutes. After that, the Yelllowjackets seemed to lose focus and may have taken their foot off the gas a little as they breezed to the finish line winning by 16, 67-51.
Improving to 16-7 on the year, Glasgow drained nine three-pointers on the day and were led by Jackson Meyer’s 21 points. Meanwhile, Bronson Foster knocked down five long-distance trifectas to end up with a 15-point effort. For Class 1 power Prairie Home, the loss was the fourth in their last five outings as they dropped to 17-6 overall. Jackson Pitts tossed in 21 points while Carter Pethan scored 12 and Cooper Brown tallied 11 for the visitors.
Following The Same Script
Like the boys’ game, the girls’ skirmish was also close for a quarter until mistake-prone Prairie Home became their own worst enemy by making turnover after turnover. Ahead 18-14 after one period, Glasgow’s Yellowjackets took advantage of those miscues to break the game open, leading 42-20 at intermission. From there, the margin grew to 59-25 as the entire fourth quarter was played with the turbo-clock in effect before the home team won going away, 64-32.
Halle Fuemmeler was far and away Glasgow’s top scorer with 33 points while Karsyn Massey chipped in with 11. Like the Glasgow boys, the Yellowjacket girls also have a record of 16-7 for the season. Prairie Home however, certainly continues to struggle as they’ve lost seven straight games and dropped to 8-15 overall. Ava Marcum tallied 10 points to pace the Panthers.
