The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a five-year contract extension with general manager JJ Picollo, keeping him in charge of the front office until 2030.

CEO and Chairman John Sherman announced Picollo’s extension Monday, Feb. 17 as Spring Training began in Surprise, Ariz. The contract includes a club option for Picollo to stick around in 2031. Picollo became the Royals’ general manager in September 2021 and also took over baseball operations a year later. He’s been with the team since 2006, starting out as the director of player development when Dayton Moore began his 16-year tenure with the franchise.

Also Monday, the Royals announced they were exercising the option on manager Matt Quatraro’s contract, retaining him for the 2026 season. The Royals’ first Cactus League game is Friday against Texas, with the regular season starting March 27 at home against Cleveland.
