
A Sedalia woman has died as a result of her injuries after a house fire in the city.
Sedalia Fire Chief Matthew Irwin announced the victim’s death during the Sedalia City Council meeting Wednesday, Feb. 19. According to the department, fire crews were dispatched to a residential fire on the 900 block of W. Fifth St. around 11 p.m. Monday night. En route, they learned that the victim was still trapped in the house. The crew of 11 firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames, but were able to rescue the victim. The woman was taken to Bothwell Regional Hospital, but did not recover from her injuries. Irwin noted that the woman was an organ donor, and firefighters took part in an honor walk upon her passing.
Crews spent about two hours containing the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office.
